Chris Simmance

and the mobile Arto sound studio

Lyrical, poetical, cosy, empathetic: Chris Simmance was born in 1951 in Salisbury, South of England – not far away from the famous Stonehenge – as the son of a floriculturist. He started studying geography, then deciding however to become a convinced street musician. After having stayed in Southern Europe in cities such a Paris, Bordeaux, Verona and Florence he was drawn to the north. In August 1978 his way led him to Tubingen. Thereafter he went back to England where he lives on a cannel barge on the river Thames. He records first songs selling these in England, France and Italy. In 1983 he moves to Germany. The street music continues to be his main source of income and many concerts and CD production were to follow. Since 2007 Chris Simmance is living in his motor caravan from Niesmann+Bischoff. With his instruments and the technical equipment he converts the Arto into a mobile sound studio. In 2010 he bought a new Arto and is travelling throughout Europe.
